Modern writing seems to plumb new depths every day. Social media leads the way: Twitter is merely a platform from which to shout at people. Linked In is chiefly shameless self-promotion or glib truisms about leadership. Even the printed media lacks both the truth and style it pretends to. At work our email correspondence is devoid of thought or literary merit. Email must surely be in the same category as the atomb bomb: something we wish we had not invented.

So this blog is the antidote. A place to write about anything interesting. A place to enjoy writing for its own sake (“Art has no end but its own perfection”). A place where written English might stage a small fight back.
